A Tale of Accidental Entrepreneurship
How we stumbled into this calling and created our dream community…
One day, long, long ago, in the middle of winter, in different offices, in different states, three writers came together online to create something new… something magical… something just for themselves…
Dear Reader,
When we first began designing these retreats, we didn’t predict what it has become. We didn’t begin our journey with elaborate market research or detailed business plans.
Everything began with three writers making our own writing processes and communities better for ourselves.
Now we have those detailed plans, strategies, and processes, but most importantly, we love what Book Dragon Ink, and we, have become along this journey.
After our first experience with a DIY writing retreat for our personal writing projects, we were left craving a cozy, creative, and supportive experience engineered to help us get a lot of words on the page instead of the bland, generic, fits-all approach we had just tried.
In the end, we spent little time writing that day and a LOT of time brainstorming our next “retreat.” We did what writers do—we began to write, dream, plan, and repeat to bring our dream into reality. The more we dreamed, the more we wanted to host this for fellow writers who shared our hunger for a sacred time to write.
Businesses are not simply “found”—they are “forged”… and it all starts with a spark. But some sparks have a disturbing habit of becoming a full-blown fire…
The moment we decided to charge even a minuscule fee and open our event doors to others, our standards shifted entirely—we knew we needed to deliver something extraordinary. We couldn’t have predicted that Zinzi would pipe up and essentially ask, “... can we also start a podcast?”
Fires have a way of spreading.
Book Dragon Ink and Book Dragon Banter Podcast were born within only a few months (but believe us, it felt like forever and a day).
Our Ink Retreats are sacred, creative, and accessible sanctuaries for writers to come and experience a welcoming community, to prioritize their craft, to break through creative barriers blocking their flow, and to find support to help them transport their writing to new levels.
And to fan the flames…
Not only do we solve our own original problem—bringing our ideal retreat to life for ourselves—but we've built the cozy dragon's lair we all wished existed: a place where people aren't just passing through, but they’re settling into their new favorite chair to stay a while and write.
Our mission is to foster transformative writing processes so that writers can take time away from their busy schedules and write their creative dreams into reality.
Books aren’t just born in this dragon’s lair—they’re fleshed out, revised, and reinvigorated here.

Meet the Book Dragons

Sage Moreaux
A lifelong epic-fantasy fangirl, Sage has been dreaming up worlds of her own for as long as she can remember. Shortly after becoming a mom, she realized if she’d regret one thing in life, it’d be not getting all the stories in her head onto the page. She pivoted from her career as a video producer to her true passion: writing novels of the speculative variety. She’s currently editing her debut novel while simultaneously writing about six other books. She’s also co-host of Book Dragon Banter, a book content reviewer, and a co-founder of Book Dragon Ink, where she is both host and coach for their Ink Retreats.
When she’s not writing or reading, she’s snuggling with her family or baking desserts in a never-ending quest to satiate her sweet tooth.

Zinzi Bree
Zinzi Bree is a cozy fantasy writer and co-host of the Book Dragon Banter podcast. She’s passionate about heartwarming stories, fantastic magic systems, and immersive world-building. In addition to working on her debut novel, Zinzi runs a close-knit online writing community that supports writers through accountability and connection. As a co-founder of Book Dragon Ink Zinzi brings a decade of experience playing board games and running TTPRGs to her role of Game Master during Ink Retreats.
When she’s not writing, podcasting, or playing a board game, she’s watching Korean dramas, geocaching with her husband and kids, or snuggling her two dogs.

Katherine Suzette
Katherine Suzette writes all things sassy and strange in her mental menagerie of speculative fiction. She is currently working on her debut novel. Outside of her writing time, Katherine is the developmental book coach + editor at Book Dragon Editorial. She is passionate about helping authors to navigate their tricky early drafts and revision challenges to take their manuscript from messy first draft to addictive page-turner. Katherine is also a co-founder of Book Dragon Ink, where she is editor-on-call for their Ink Retreats and is co-host on the Book Dragon Banter Podcast.
When she’s not obsessing over books, you might find Katherine scheming up a new business idea, napping, or arguing with her cats about appropriate behavior.
